Congratulations to Rosalie Wilson, SCI's "everything" volunteer, who won United Way's 2017 Human Services Award and the 2017 Herschel V. Jenkins Volunteer of the Year Award! Rosalie is a Senior Companion to a homebound senior four days a week, delivers Meals on Wheels every Wednesday, and calls about 160 Meals on Wheels volunteers each week to help keep deliveries running smoothly. She also brightens the day of everyone who works at SCI with her charm, wit, and Yankee humor. Our thanks and congratulations to Rosalie!

Meals on Wheels

SCI could not deliver over 1,000 meals a day without the help of a strong volunteer corps. Help deliver lunchtime meals to homebound seniors and activity centers. The commitment is about one hour a week. Routes are available throughout Savannah and outlying counties.

neighborhood centers

Join or lead activities like arts & crafts, bingo, puzzles, and music with seniors who attend the centers.

adult daytime care centers

Join or lead activities like arts & crafts, bingo, puzzles, and music with seniors who attend the centers.

Sterling Rides

This program involves driving the senior who can no longer drive to his/her doctor’s appointment, the grocery store, errands, etc. Hours are flexible - you choose the ride(s) you’d like to provide each week. Evenings and weekends trips are possible. Available in Chatham County.

Friendly Caller

Phone seniors from your home once or twice a week to make sure they're doing OK. You can sign up for as many calls as you'd like.

Seasonal Care Packages

Help decorate and fill gift boxes or baskets with small household items. Make as many as you want and at your own convenience. Suggested items include: personal care items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste etc.), notepads, envelopes, stamps, pens and pencils, lotion, Kleenex, socks, batteries, etc. Perfect for a group holiday project!

Mailings/Office AssistanCE

Help with mailings, filing, or occasional receptionist duties at the front desk. Any time is good for helping around the office. Mailings occur twice a month to distribute our calendars and newsletters to clients and volunteers. Call for schedule details.

Yard Work

Help our seniors with minor yard repairs and maintenance. These are often group weekend projects at a senior’s home.

SCI Kitchen

Help prepare meals in our commercial kitchen Monday - Friday any time between 6am and 11am. Volunteers can help for 2-3 hours at a time. Must be 18 years old.

We also have special seasonal projects such as blanket drives, painting, and card making.
There is something for everyone!

Please call Lily McCormick or email for more information on these and other volunteer opportunities with Senior Citizens, Inc.
