The Learning Center marks the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a lecture by Dr. Robert A. Pratt of the University of Georgia. Dr. Pratt will speak on the public life and enduring legacy of Dr. King, his lifelong commitment to non-violent social change, and his ascendancy to the leadership of the Civil Rights Movement. 

$7 lecture; $7 lunch at TLC at 11:00am or 1:00pm

In celebration of The 2017 Subaru Share the Love Event, SCI is teaming up with Chatham Parkway Subaru and Kroger to provide non-perishable food for seniors in need. Stop by the Kroger store at 318 Mall Blvd. and help SCI "Stuff the Subaru" by donating single-serving non-perishable foods. Cash donations are also welcome. Alpha Media radio personalities will be on hand and the Local Vocals choir will be singing holiday classics beginning at 2:30pm!

Low Country style boutique Spartina 449 is hosting a two-day Shopping & Bridal Event to benefit SCI programs. On Friday, August 25 from 4 to 7pm, enjoy champagne and complimentary desserts on Old Town Trolley’s Bridal Trolley. On Saturday, August 26, the event runs from 10am to 1pm. On both days ticket holders can meet wedding vendors, enter to win amazing raffle prizes, and receive 15% off their entire purchase at the store’s 317 W. Broughton Street location. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door and can be purchased at seniorcitizensinc.org, at Spartina’s stores on Broughton Street, and at 200 Tanger Outlets Blvd., Suite 221 in Pooler. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to SCI.

Fun and informative, Passport to Healthy Living will provide older adults and their family members with information and resources for getting the most from life’s journey with optimal health.  

The expo features interactive demonstrations and educational information from local experts including Olympic athlete and coach Michael Cohen. Coach Cohen will share transformational stories and the secrets of success from the 43 senior national weightlifting champions he has coached.

Miles for Meals 5k run/walk

Bring the whole family (including your dog) for this fun 5k run/walk in Daffin Park! 

You can dress as your favorite food and help us  FIGHT TO END SENIOR HUNGER in our community! Race proceeds benefit SCI’s Meals on Wheels program, which brings friendly smiles and hot, healthy meals to hundreds of seniors throughout Chatham, Bryan, Liberty and Effingham Counties each day. In many cases, these seniors are homebound and this one daily meal is their only source of sustenance and interaction with someone else. Currently there are more than 400 seniors, at or below the federal poverty line, awaiting nutrition support through Meals on Wheels in Chatham County alone.

Entry fee is $25 through April 23, $30 April 24-May 16, and $35 after May 16.
