Irene L. Johnson
A native Savannahian, Mrs. Johnson enjoyed a long and accomplished career as an educator and social worker. As an elementary school teacher for the local public school system, reading instructor at the former Harris Reading Center, and a paraprofessional at Haven Elementary School, Mrs. Johnson helped shaped many young minds. During her 26 years at the Coastal Center for Developmental Services, she assisted individuals who were mentally capable, but challenged, to find work and to gain skills needed to live independently. Following retirement, she has continued to volunteer in several ministries and organizations, including her church, St. James AME.

Following his retirement from the Air Force and Georgia Air National Guard, Colonel Wexler has dedicated himself to the betterment of the military community and veterans of the Coastal Empire. Col. Wexler, the Chatham County Veteran’s Council 2017-2018 Veteran of the Year, is a member of the local posts of the American Legion, Jewish War Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
